London System

The London System is one of the most popular openings at club level and increasingly at the grandmaster level. White develops the bishop to f4 early, building a solid, reliable setup before committing to a pawn structure. Magnus Carlsen has used it regularly as White, calling it a key part of his repertoire.

The London System is built on solidity and flexibility. White typically plays d4, Nf3, Bf4, e3, Bd3, c3, and castles short — a setup that is almost impossible to attack directly. It's an excellent choice for players who want a reliable, low-maintenance opening.
