What is the touch-move rule?

In over-the-board play, if you deliberately touch one of your pieces you must move it (if it has a legal move); if you touch an enemy piece you must capture it if you legally can. To adjust a piece without committing to move it, say 'adjust' (j'adoube) first. Online, the rule doesn't apply โ€” only your released move counts.

Put it into practice.
