How does a knight move?

A knight moves in an 'L' shape: two squares in one direction then one square at a right angle, landing on a square of the opposite colour each time. It's the only piece that jumps over others โ€” nothing blocks its path. From the centre a knight reaches up to eight squares; from a corner only two, which is why knights belong near the middle.
