Can bishops change colour?

No. A bishop moves only diagonally, so it stays on squares of a single colour for the entire game. Each side starts with one light-squared bishop and one dark-squared bishop. This is why a 'bad bishop' trapped behind its own pawns can be a long-term weakness โ€” it can never reach the other colour.

Put it into practice.
